Quantum Algorithm Researcher

C12 Quantum Electronics

C12 Quantum Electronics

Paris, France
Posted on Wednesday, June 12, 2024
C12 develops reliable & application-specific quantum computers, to solve highly complex computing tasks, currently out of reach of even most powerful supercomputers. Building a quantum computer still needs innovators ready to tackle exciting challenges. C12’s founders are convinced that only a new material for the qubit will bring a technological breakthrough. C12 uniquely uses carbon nanotubes as the fundamental building blocks of its quantum processor. This high-purity material minimises errors, radically improves performance and reduces hardware overhead for fault-tolerant computing. Combined with well-established semiconductor techniques, carbon nanotubes will help scale quantum computing, just as silicon revolutionised classical computing. Founded in 2020, C12 is a fast-growing start-up, who recently raised EUR 18 million in 2024 to further its research in its own lab in the heart of Paris (Panthéon).

Your role at C12 Quantum Electronics

  • As a Quantum Algorithm Researcher, you will drive the creation of new and the improvement of existing quantum algorithms for our near-term quantum computers under development. Your goal is to investigate the possibility of quantum advantage, taking into consideration the hardware properties. You will design and simulate quantum algorithms with an interest in applying those to real-world problems and focus on adapting those to our near-term quantum computer. In this position, you will collaborate with our partners, developing applied and/or use case-specific quantum algorithms as well as our quantum hardware teams. We would like to understand where quantum is and isn’t suitable, what quantum algorithms scale, and what is the best strategy to take advantage of our quantum hardware overall. You will have the opportunity to grow a portfolio of research activity across the breadth of C12’s interests.
  • Your tasks will include:
  • Defining and refining quantum algorithms or simulations that efficiently exploit hardware capabilities
  • Contributing to industry R&D collaborations in applying quantum algorithms and simulations to computational problems
  • Theoretical and/or applied research on near-term quantum computing algorithms, and/or application
  • Collaborating with domain experts to translate business problems into challenges tractable by quantum algorithms
  • Presenting research findings in technical discussions and journal publications

About you

  • You have a PhD in quantum information, quantum computation theory, theoretical computer science, theoretical physics, or a closely related field
  • You have 5 years research and/or industry experience (including the PhD)
  • You have a good understanding of quantum theory and its application to algorithm development
  • You have experience applying quantum algorithms to practical problems in areas like quantum simulation, optimisation or partial differential equations
  • You are able to collaborate across diverse teams of expert engineers
  • You speak and write English fluently
  • You are self-motivated and are able to work independently
  • You are curious and passionate about technology with a particular interest in quantum
  • You have the start-up mindset (growing and creative environment)
You should join us if...
You want to have a key role in a growing startup with challenges at the frontier of the technology.
You want to contribute to achieving landmark results in quantum computing, making a difference in the emerging quantum technologies.
You want to work within a 40-people team with various backgrounds in nanofabrication, quantum electronics, and carbon nanotube science to create a revolutionary quantum computing processor.
You want to thrive in an exceptional scientific environment with several industrial and academic partners.
You share our values (excellence, scientific integrity, diversity, curiosity, and care) and want to help us define our product-focused culture and ambition to accelerate.
C12’s unique technology
At C12, a qubit, the fundamental functional unit of a quantum computer, is built from an isotopically ultra-pure 12C nanotube suspended above a silicon chip containing control electrodes and a quantum communication bus. Our spin qubits hold great promise in terms of individual control and manipulation as well as for the circuit architecture. A suspended isotopically-pure 12C nanotube holds great promise in terms of stability, as it reduces all sources of decoherence (charge noise, nuclear spin noise and phonon relaxation). C12 encourages all who feel qualified to apply.
Recruitment decisions are based solely on qualifications, skills, knowledge and experience. Applications from women are particularly welcomed.
